The countdown...

Seven days.

We will be leaving in SEVEN DAYS!!!!

We will be meeting our sweet Toby on Thanksgiving Day!

After only 4 1/2 months - which is quick by adoption standards but feels like an eternity when your mama's heart just wants to hold your boy - we got the phone call that we have our first appointment!

It came a lot sooner than we were expecting, so we are in a bit of a time crunch.  You see...we are moving to a new house on the 20th and will have one day in our new home before having to make our big trek to Europe!  But we don't care...we will make it work....we get to see our boy on Thanksgiving!!!!!!

We cherish your prayers for our family during this period of massive transition!  We will do our best to keep the blog updated as we travel and meet our new son, but we may be restricted in what information/photos we can share until after we pass court, so please be understanding and patient!

Our specific prayer requests:
- Safety during our travel and peace for our three very busy little boys during such long flights!
- No delays so that we make it to our first appointment on time
- For Toby's heart to be ready to be filled with love by his new family!
- For our boys to be allowed to come to the orphanage with us for visits.  On our first day, we have arranged for someone to stay with the boys in our apartment while Josh and I meet Toby for the first time.  For those of you who know my boys, this will NOT be easy.  Foreign country, new apartment, new face babysitting them, parents leaving - they are not going to like it.  Please pray for peace for them!
- For a speedy process!  Josh can only miss two shifts of work, so he will need to return after two weeks or so.  Please pray that our court date would fall during the time he has off so that he does not need to make more than one trip!  The judge could also decide to waive the 10-day wait period, which would be fantastic!  We could be home by Christmas!
- For additional funds.  Because we are flying right during the holidays, we are a little short on funds for our airfare.  We will be able to continue to receive donations to our Reece's Rainbow fund.  If you have waited to give or feel led to do so now, please donate to our Family Sponsorship Page

Home for Six Months

Today marks our six month anniversary of bringing Toby home. I'm not going to lie.  It has been a rough six months.  I think it takes courage - something I haven't quite had up until now - to be real and honest and put some of the ponderings of your heart into words that can be read by so many.  In all actuality, as one sweet friend so aptly put it, "It is as if God had silenced my words." I'm a pretty wordy person...and it was such a joy to keep up with this blog and write about all that God was doing as we committed to Toby, saw miracle after miracle in the fundraising and paperwork process, and took the adventure across the world to bring home our son. Why we brought him back home...

The new school year is in full swing, we've had a wonderful summer and I am enjoying teaching all FOUR of my boys this year!  Yes, after having Toby in public school for a year, we prayerfully decided to bring him home to learn with his brothers. I thought that perhaps by sharing a bit of this part of our story, others may be encouraged to make hard decisions, listen to the Lord's prompting and take a leap of faith. While Toby did enjoy his fourth grade year in our local, small-town public school, my spirit was restless for most of the year.  He started off his year strong, loved his teacher, the other adults he came in contact with, art class on Fridays, school lunches, etc.  It was an adjustment for us all to send off one child to school while the other three stayed behind with me.  Toby often expressed concern that he was missing something we were doing without him; Jack (my social child) worried that he was missing something Toby had at school...there wasn't much

Life with FASD

If you've been reading our blog for any length of time, you know the background story of how we discovered that our newest son didn't have Celiac Disease as listed on his profile, but instead had a host of other issues...foremost among them, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.  (I wrote about it a little in the post  "Home for Six Months" .) Before I begin to describe what life has been like learning how to parent a child with FASD, I want to be sure you know that we are in no way experts on this disorder.  There are so many amazing resources available with much more specific information:  books, websites, support groups, etc.  (Maybe the BEST resource is an adoptive parent of a child with FASD!)  But our hope is to shed more light on the day-to-day issues we face, dealing with Toby's disability and learning what it means to love him and give him the best support in the midst of it.
