Other treasures waiting to be found...
Though we are thick in the middle of our own adoption story, we cannot stop thinking about and praying for all the other orphans whose pictures and stories have touched our hearts. When I post a photo of our sweet Toby, who looks like he could have been born right intou our family, I often get lots of "likes" and comments on our Facebook page. We treasure all of the support and encouragement that has flooded us since we began this journey less than four months ago.
But there are SO MANY OTHER CHILDREN who desperately need families!!! They need someone to notice them and be a voice for them. The same person who was a voice for our Toby and drew our attention to him, Julia Nalle, has been a tireless voice for other boys she had to leave behind. I've shared some of her blog posts before or posted photos of other waiting children on our Facebook page and there isn't a flicker of acknowledgment. Maybe these faces aren't as outwardly charming as Toby's. Maybe it is hard to see them and think of the darkness they are living in. It is easier to look away...say nothing...do nothing...
But please...LOOK at these boys! The first two, Alex and Micah, are turning 16 in the next two months and they will be lost in the system forever if a family does not find them.
This is Alex. He ages out in December! Please pray for him!
This is Micah. He will age out in November! Please pray for a family to rescue him!
All of the others are in the same, bleak institution and desperately need families.
This is Aaron. You can read more about him and donate at:
This is sweet Ben!
And this cheerful boy (though he has no reason to have such joy!) is Isaiah:
And Stephan so desperately needs a family and hope!
We are still thousands of dollars away from being fully funded for our own adoption. But I beg you to look at these boys and see if there is any extra money you could donate to their Reece's Rainbow funds? They all have matching grants right now, so every dollar will be doubled.
Could you give up Starbucks for a week and donate $15?
Could you forgo your weekend meal out or movie and put that money in one of these boys' accounts?
Could you stop for a minute and look intently at each picture and pray for them by name?
Whatever you can do...please DO!
Toby has a family coming for him...in a matter of weeks! (Praise the Lord!) These boys have no family...and Micah and Alex need a miracle to happen in order for them to be placed in the loving arms of parents who can see the treasures they really are. Please don't let money be an obstacle for someone who might be willing to adopt them! Please give whatever you can!
If you'd like to read more about these boys and what they have to deal with every day, please read this blog post by Julia.
And if you'd like to know more about any of these sweet spirits, I can put you in touch with the missionaries who have visited them and loved on them a few times each week for the past few years.
Above all...pray. November 8th is set as "Orphan Sunday" - a time to mobilize as the body of Christ and rally to DO something about the orphan crisis. But it shouldn't just be on one day. As followers of Christ, the cry of the orphan should be something that burdens us every.single.day until Christ returns.
